-WHY PREPAID-
For nearly two decades, the federal Residential Clean Energy Credit refunded 30% of a home solar system’s cost back to the homeowner. That’s gone. As of January 1, 2026, homeowners who buy solar with cash or a loan can no longer claim it. But the commercial-side tax credit, the one businesses claim, is still available through 2027. Prepaid solar is how homeowners can still capture that value. The system is owned by a third party (in our case, our Blox Capital affiliate), they claim the credit, and the savings are passed back to you in the form of a lower upfront price.
Half the residential installers in the country won’t survive the next 24 months. RxSun is part of Altimus Capital, a 20-year integrated renewable energy holding company with capital backing, an in-house EPC, and an asset-ownership fund (Blox Capital) so we don’t depend on third parties to keep the lights on. Translation: the company that installs your panels in 2026 will still be here in 2040.
-WHAT TO EXPECT-
Here’s exactly what happens after you sign, from install day to your final ownership decision.
Our in-house Fresh Coast Solar team handles the design, all ComEd interconnection paperwork, municipal permitting, and the install itself. Most installations are complete and producing within 60 to 90 days. You’re not the project manager, we are.
The system produces clean energy on your roof. We monitor performance daily, perform any maintenance, carry the insurance, and address any issues. You see lower (often near-zero) ComEd bills with no monthly solar payment. Production guarantee is in writing.
Starting at year 6 (after the federal tax-credit recapture period), you can buy the system outright at fair market value. Many homeowners do, at this point the equipment is paid for and you take over a system in great condition. Or stay on the agreement.
At year 15, you choose: renew the agreement at a renewed rate, take ownership of the system free and clear, or have us remove it at no cost to you. No fine-print penalties, no forced extensions. Selling your home before year 15? We transfer the agreement to the new buyer.
-WHAT'S INCLUDED-
Prepaid solar isn’t just a financing structure. It’s a complete service package, designed to make solar genuinely worry-free.
We guarantee the kWh production we promise in your agreement. If the system underproduces, we make you whole. In writing.
Every panel, inverter, racking component, and wire is covered for 15 years. If something needs service, we handle it. No fee.
We watch your system’s performance every day. If something goes off, even a single panel, we know before you do, and we respond.
The system is insured by us against damage, theft, and weather events for the entire 15-year term. Your homeowner’s policy isn’t on the hook.
Selling your home before year 15? The agreement transfers to the new buyer at no cost. Or buy it out and include the system in your sale.
Illinois Shines / SREC paperwork is notoriously complex. We file every form, manage the broker relationship, and keep you out of the weeds.
What does the math look like for an actual ComEd customer? Here’s a representative scenario for a single-family home in Chicagoland.
Illustrative example only. Actual quote depends on roof, energy usage, system size, and current ComEd rates. We never use estimated savings as a sales tactic, your actual quote will show real numbers based on your last 12 months of bills.
-ARE YOU A FIT?-
Prepaid solar isn’t right for every home. Here’s where it works best, and where we’ll tell you straight if it doesn’t.
Prepaid solar is currently available exclusively in Northern Illinois ComEd territory.
Below this threshold, the math gets thin. Above it, prepaid solar is usually a clear win.
South or west-facing is ideal. We need 8+ years of life left in your roof. If not, replace first.
The math works at any duration thanks to home transfer rights, but 5+ years optimizes savings.
If you’d rather not deal with monitoring, repairs, and insurance, prepaid hands all of it to us.
Most customers pay cash or use a home equity line. We can walk you through both.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
Prepaid solar isn't right for every home. Here's where it works best, and where we'll tell you straight if it doesn't.
During the 15-year term, the system is owned by Blox Capital, an affiliated entity within the Altimus Capital family. That structure is what allows the project to capture the commercial-side federal tax credit, which is then passed to you in the form of a lower upfront price. At year 5+ you can buy the system. At year 15, you can take ownership at no additional cost.
Neither. Prepaid solar is a service agreement. There’s no monthly payment, no interest, no credit check the way a loan would have, and no escalator clause the way many leases include. You make one payment for 15 years of energy.
Two options. You can transfer the agreement to the new homeowner at no cost — the buyer simply continues to enjoy the energy savings. Or you can purchase the system outright at fair market value and include it in your home sale, which often increases your resale price.
Every prepaid solar agreement comes with a written production guarantee. We size the system based on your last 12 months of usage and guarantee the kWh output for the term. If actual production falls short, we make you whole — typically as a rebate or extended term.
Yes. Battery storage can be added at the time of install or down the road. With ComEd rates rising and grid reliability becoming a bigger concern, more of our customers are pairing solar with storage from day one. Ask us for a quote.
Prepaid solar economics depend on the local utility rate, the state’s incentive structure (Illinois Shines is one of the strongest in the country), and net metering rules. ComEd customers in northern Illinois currently sit in the sweet spot. We’re actively evaluating other utility territories — sign up for our list to be notified if your area becomes eligible.
A fair question — and the reason our holding-company structure matters. RxSun is part of Altimus Capital, a 20-year integrated renewable energy group with multiple operating companies and capital reserves. The asset itself is held by Blox Capital, separate from the operating entity. If you’d like to see our financial backing in writing, we’ll share it.
Most prepaid solar providers are pure financiers — they raise outside capital, contract a local installer, and disappear. RxSun is part of an integrated holding company. The same group designs your system (RxSun), installs it (Fresh Coast Solar), owns the asset (Blox Capital), and brokers your interconnection (Navigate Power). One throat to choke. One company accountable for the entire experience.
15 minutes. No pressure, no hard sell, no door-to-door tactics. Just an honest look at whether prepaid solar makes sense for your home.
